Do kittens temporarily get an excessive amount of eye boogers?

My kitten is 4 weeks old and everytime she falls asleep overnight she wakes up with her right eye (only the right one) stuck shut because of the eye boogers that cover her eye. Is this normal for kittens? Or is it an infection? How can i treat it? I clean it with a moist towel in the morning but i don't want to be doing it every single day because the water scares her. thanks
