Dog with terrible eye boogers then they stopped?

About two days ago my dog started producing larg green gunky eye boogers only in his left eye. We have had him for almost two years and he has never had eye boogers. Later that night his left eye turned red and gunky its been two days i was planning on thaking him to the vet but the red in his eye is almost gone and has stopped producing eye boogers. what could this mean? I would normally take him to the vet anyway but its finals week.... Should i still take him even though its clearing up? I just really care about my animal and don't want him to have problems due to me not taking him right away.
