I just need to know..is this really normal?

Ok so this might turn out to be a little long but i really need to know! :) Ok so about 2 months into my boyfriend and i's relationship..i decided to adopt a kitten. At that point in time i was still living at home and wasnt aloud to get a dog plus im just a cat girl >_< lol. anyway...up until our kitten (Bently) was about 20 weeks old my boyfriend had NO PROBLEM with having him. Now keep in mind Bently is just a normal kitten, he plays eats sleeps all that. The only thing that is "annoying" about him is that he was born with a permanent upper respiratory infection pretty much meaning he sneezes a lot and boogers come out just like a person when there sick. And obviously im not just going to leave them stuck to his face or on the carpet in going to clean him up right...just like anyone else would do i feel. So now this is were im angry i guess. After going through vet after vet trying to get Bently to not be sick anymore all of a sudden my boyfriend started HATING him. He'll put him outside at night and we live on a moderately busy street. He'll lock him out of the room, he'll get so angry and start fights with me if he's on the bed and most of all he tells Bently/me oh i wish you would just get eaten by a coyote or hit by a car. He says i hate you. and i know it sounds a little crazy but it makes me sad because i love Bently more than anything (i cant have children and my boyfriend knows that) he's like my little baby. And whenever we have fights now (which we never fought once up until this point in time) he always says i pay more attention to the cat then to him and that i love the cat more. And yes i love Bently a lot but come on he still is just a cat. So basically im asking does this sound normal or has this ever happened to anyone else before? Or like am i just supposed to start ignoring the cat :/. thanks for the help!!
